Micky van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Run at Brand New Stadium

The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Spurs extended their unbeaten run on the road in the top division and handed the Toffees their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of chances, while Vicario made a succession of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, advising the match official to check the goal on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the division, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and are six points clear of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in role at both ends of the field

Following a uninspiring weekday display in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a mere attempts on target, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was failed to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have worn off somewhat and fans headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of recognised strikers - had netted just one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy evening on Merseyside.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, as well, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Spurs penalty area.
