Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official commented the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
